BACK PAIN
Uh Oh, it's back. (no pun intended.) If you are like the countless others that experience back pain you know what comes next, anti-inflammatories, ice, rest, being out of action for too many days. It seems to come out of nowhere. But does it? Chronic back pain affects 70 to 80 percent of all people at some time in their life. Low back pain can range from mild, dull, annoying pain, to persistent, severe, disabling pain. Not something that you want to live with.
Low back pain is one of our most significant health problems. The National Institutes of Health (NIH): states that back pain is the most frequent cause of activity limitation in people younger than 45 years old. Resulting in lost work and recreation days.
What causes low back pain? The NIH states that "Even with today's technology, the exact cause of low back pain can be found in very few cases." In most cases, back pain may be a symptom of many different causes, including any or several of the following:
ONE MAJOR THING THEY OVERLOOK........SPINAL MISALIGNMENT!!!!!
But low back pain can be prevented. The following will help to prevent low back pain:
* Doctors of Chiropractic are trained to recognize and treat all of the above conditions.
Most back pain is due to abnormal biomechanics of the spine, meaning that there are changes in the structure, causing a decrease in function that leads to the body going into protective mode. Spasm to help to splint the area and decrease in range of motion is possible causing nerve impingement. (pinched nerves)
Chiropractors are the ONLY health professionals trained to diagnose and treat (with Chiropractic adjustments) these conditions when appropriate.

- overuse, strenuous activity, or improper use (i.e., repetitive or heavy lifting, exposure to vibration for prolonged periods of time)
- trauma/injury/fracture
- degeneration of vertebrae (often caused by stresses on the muscles and ligaments that support the spine, or the effects of aging)
- obesity (often caused by increased weight on the spine and pressure on the discs)
- poor muscle tone in the back
- muscle tension or spasm
- sprain or strain
- ligament or muscle tears
- joint problems (e.g., spinal stenosis)
- smoking
- protruding or herniated (slipped) disk
- disease (e.g., osteoarthritis, spondylitis, compression fractures)

But low back pain can be prevented. The following will help to prevent low back pain:
- practicing correct lifting techniques
- maintaining correct posture while sitting, standing, and sleeping
- exercising regularly (with proper stretching before participation)
- avoiding smoking
- maintaining a healthy weight
